张晓刚，1982年毕业于四川美术学院油画系，现在北京生活和工作。
自九十年代始，张晓刚运用冷峻内敛及白日梦般的艺术风格传达出具有时代特征的集体心理记忆与情绪。这种对社会、集体、个人以及家庭、血缘的悖谬式的呈现和模拟是一种从艺术、情感以及人生的角度出发的再演绎，具有强烈的当代意义，是当代艺术所蕴世故的中国情境的最佳体现。
其作品曾参加包括威尼斯双年展，圣保罗双年展（获圣保罗双年展铜奖，1994年），光洲双年展，澳洲亚太三年展，上海双年展等一系列国内外的重要群展，并在全球多个美术馆及重要机构举办个展。作品被英国泰特当代美术馆，法国蓬皮杜现代美术馆，德国历史博物馆，纽约MOMA，昆士兰美术馆，日本德岛现代美术馆，福冈美术馆，深圳何香凝美术馆，上海美术馆等国内外多家美术馆及重要机构和私人收藏。
Zhang Xiaogang lives and works in Beijing after graduating from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1982.
Since the 1990s, Zhang has conveyed the era-specific collective memories and emotions with his distant, reserved yet fantasy-like unrestrained artistic style. His paradoxical presentation and simulation of society, collectives, individuals, families, and genetic connections come out of a reinterpretation from the perspective of art, emotion and life, hence the prominent contemporaneity therein, making these works the best embodiment of worldly life depicted by comtemparary art in a Chinese context.
Zhang’s works have participated in a series of renowned group exhibitions both in and abroad, including the Venice Biennale, the São Paulo Biennial (won the Bronze Award in 1994), the Gwangju Biennale, the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art and the Shanghai Biennale. He’s also held solo exhibitions in many art museums and important institutions across the world, with his works being collected by Tate Modern in Britain, Centre Pompidou in France, Deutsches Historisches Museum in Germany, MOMA in New York, Queensland Art Gallery in Australia, Tokushima Modern Art Museum in Japan Fukuoka Art Museum, He Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen, Shanghai Art Museum, and many other art galleries, important institutions, as well as by private collectors.
