Here the artist chooses to leave behind beauty and novelty, more deeply exploring the interior of things. Zhan Wang contributes to the significance of materiality itself, moving past ideas of success or failure to unearth the pure qualities of the material, looking closely and inquiring into the hidden connections between life, design, and art. In the exhibition there is a contrast or tension between the spatial works and the products on display, between raw materials and finished products, between the indeterminacy and roughness of the materials and the elegance of the finished products. This reminds us of the intrinsic qualities of art and design that remains invisible to the naked eye, leading to reflection of the relationship between the material and the spiritual.
